Translocation. A new definition
Translocation.
A new definition.
First steps towards
real world teleportation.
The official definition is …
The movement of
something from one place to another.
Examples:
‘from the
nestlings, 20 birds were available for translocation annually’
‘tissue can become
infected by translocation of bacteria from the gut’
count noun ‘a
reciprocal translocation has occurred between two chromosomes’
‘The other problem
to consider is the impact of translocation on resident leopards.’
‘Fundamental to
the recovery program is the translocation of squirrels off the refuge
to suitable sites.’
‘Translocation is
usually used to augment the population of endangered animals.’
‘Intact foliage
and root systems are needed for complete translocation.’
‘Chromosomal
translocations are known to contribute to the development or
progression of many types of cancer.’

My suggestion is that we can translocate our consciousnous whilst
staying in the same place and using robots at the destination using
almost total immersion.
For example building
on the moon, mars, deep sea exploration.
Imagine instead of
teleporting or travelling to an area we put on a VR suit and
experience somewhere remotely.
It is really just an
extension of existing robotic remote control or drones. With deeper
immersion for the remote operator. Instead of using a joystick and
cameras a form of bodysuit and vr. With more advanced robotics to
allow for natural arm movements.
The key predicted
problems are lag and communication interference.
This can hopefully
be mitigated with a certain amount of localised AI assistance.
Another way to
mitigate lag would be to use 360 cameras to allow for natural real
time head movements by the operator. So at any given moment they
can look around with no lag.
I can foresee a
warehouse of operators building things remotely and helping each
other out when problems occur. Each operator could be supported by a
few support staff bringing in filtered input from the real world to
counter the isolation of total immersion.
Almost total
immersion would probably help concentration on specific tasks.
